Description:
Expedition with fixed dates!

Central Tien Shan is one of the biggest mountain ranges, located in the very southeast, at the junction of the borders of three countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China. In the upper reaches of the Bayankol River, there are the Meridional mountain ranges, in which several remarkable peaks stand out, such as the Marble Wall, Bayankol and Kazakhstan. In the neighboring ridge is located the legendary peak of Khan-Tengri. The next to these giants is the peak of Astana.
Our company offers you to participate in this expedition and visit the most interesting mountain region. We knowingly call this program an expedition. It includes a 400-kilometer crossing on off-road vehicles, and a cargo caravan of the horses to the base camp, and a long walk to the foot of the mountain. Astana Peak is a very beautiful, but not easy to climb up to everyone.
Duration: 5 days
The cost of the expedition in 2019 – $ 370 / per person.
Itinerary: Almaty – Bayankol Gorge – Marble Wall Base Camp – Astana Peak – Base Camp – Bayankol Gorge – Almaty.
Program by day:
Day 1. June 28
Starting from Almaty – Bayankol Border Post (400km) – Bayankol Gorge – Base Camp
Today we are moving to the gorge Bayankol. Our path runs along the foothills of Zailiysky and Kungei Alatau and is very picturesque in sunrise colors. Along the way, we will cross two small mountain ranges of the Bogeta and Sogetts and end up in the Kegen-Tekess valley at the beginning of the Bayankol gorge. Here we have to pass a checkpoint at the border post and then we will continue our way to the Keskentas gorge. Here we can see in all its glory the highlight of the Tien Shan – the peak of Khan-Tengri and other peaks.
Next, we are going to drive about 10 km to the Zharkulak gold mine. Then the trekking part of our route begins. We have to go to the base camp (12km) located at the confluence of the rivers Sary Goynou and Bayankol. Throughout the journey, we are going to be accompanied by unforgettable views of the beautiful nature. Arrival at the base camp. Accommodation. We recommend a small acclimatization walk to the Marble Wall Glacier. You can’t even imagine how beautiful the surrounding nature is. Green grass and streams, the diversity of scree and this entire splendor crowned with snow-white peaks. Night in camping tents.

On our way, there will be places of ancient archeological sites. Then we will approach the foot of the Marble Wall peak, the most northern six thousandth height of the Tien Shan. Just in case, this is a height above 4000 meters and we have to overcome its influence. We will climb the scree slopes, which requires a certain skill. The prize will be an unforgettable panorama view of the Tien Shan – the Heavenly Mountains, here you will understand the essence of their names. Coming down by the way up. Dinner at the camp. Night in camping tents.

Additional Information.
Description of the route to Astana peak (4555m).
The first part of the path (~ 800m) from the base camp passes along the River Sary Goynou to the tongue of the Marble Wall glacier. The pass goes almost without climbing. Then you need to climb a steep scree slope (set 100m). Further, along the picturesque, well-marked path, without steep climbs, we will move to a small stream flowing down from the Astana peak. The total travel time is approximately 2 hours (depending on the physical fitness of the group). Here you can make a little halt, have a snack, replenish water supplies.
Further, our path will pass along a large scree, along a stream. We will climb up to the so-called “balcony” – a huge “shelf”, a kind of pedestal at Astana peak (set approximately 300–350 meters, the journey time is approximately 1.5 hours). The rise is quite steep, especially before going to the “balcony”. For safety, we must wear helmets. On the “balcony” a little rest. We continue our ascent. On scree slopes we reach the ridge (approximately 1.5 hours) and after 100 meters we reach the top of Astana peak. Descent along the ascent path.
